Slab I

June 2001
University of Westminster
Harrow Campus

While studying for a ceramics degree at the University of Westminster, the artist developed his way of make ceramic sculptures he calls Slab Torsos, in which he printed his body on sheets of clay.

This culminated in Slab I, an installation of nine Slab Torsos displayed in the form of five ceramic pieces supported by a video loop. The latter, Slab Movie 2001, is a series of video clips showing two models printing their torsos on to sheets of clay.

The video sequences, which document the process of making sculptures, led to the artists deciding to present the process of making 'live'. The interaction of body with soft clay has become a performance in Slab II 2003.
